La Sirène

La Sirène is the beautiful and mysterious Queen of the Sea, an ancient lwa whose mysteries encompass the ocean, wealth, beauty, illusion, fertility, marriage, intuition, music, prosperity, and the treasures concealed beneath the waters. Often envisioned as a magnificent mermaid, she is refined, seductive, magnetic, and deeply feminine, but also serious and immensely powerful. She may be petitioned for fertility and pregnancy, marriage, faithful commitment, relationship stability, prosperity, luck, cleansing, protection, beauty, fame, and popularity. Her husband, Agwe, is King and Admiral of the Sea, and their maritime mysteries are closely intertwined. In Haitian Vodou, La Sirène is also connected with Anba Dlo, the spiritual realm beneath the waters and the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead.
La Sirène is said to possess the treasures of the ocean, and her underwater palace is imagined as filled with gold, diamonds, jewels, and precious objects carried beneath the waves. She is associated with dreams, divination, psychic perception, transformation, and invisibility. The mirror is particularly sacred to her, serving as both an offering and, in some traditions, a means of divination. Her sacred number is 7, her colors are sea blue, light blue, white, and cream, with gold, silver, and sometimes pale pink also used, and she is associated with the Moon. Thursday is especially connected with her Rada service, although Saturday and Sunday may also be observed in some houses. Noon and 7:00 PM are traditional times for approaching her.
